Providing specialist trauma informed education and workshops to communities managing the aftermath of homicide, abuse and other traumas.

Trauma can have a deeply profound impact on not only an individual, but a community at large. It can be hard to know how to best support a community who are grappling to come to terms with something devastating.

After surviving my own extreme trauma 25 years ago, I went on to obtain a Bachelor of Social Work with first class honours and a PhD in International Health, which explored the post-trauma landscape.

Now with 25 years of practical experience across health, justice and community services, I offer:

  • specialist trauma informed education and workshops to communities managing the aftermath of homicide, abuse and other traumas; and

  • consultant support, workshops and training in communities that are seeking to minimise the long-term impacts of extreme trauma, including homicide and family violence.

All real communities grow out of a shared confrontation with survival… Our situation in the desert is an incubator for community.

Trauma awareness raising forums

Drug and alcohol use, suicide, homelessness and other social issues are typically symptoms of unresolved trauma. Communities seeking to address these issues need to understand what sits behind these behaviours.

These forums provide an introduction to trauma recovery, what communities can do, and why it is important.

Sessions are tailored to the community in need and can be undertaken both online and in person.

OBJECTIVES

Increased understanding of what trauma is, how it is experienced and what can be done to support our family, friends and community members. This leads to an ability to both prevent, and to address, trauma.

PERFECT FOR

General community members, interest and community groups

International Women’s Day presentations
(8 March)

Women have made, and continue to make invaluable social, cultural, economic, and political contributions to the world, yet gender disparity is still very much a prominent issue globally.

This interactive presentation, which is tailored to the needs of your community, will engage participants in International Women’s Day (IWD), provide important insights into current gender disparity issues, and suggest steps that can be taken towards equality.

testimonials

  • I gained an increased sensitivity and awareness to the impact I perception that can be felt when people pass comment on victims of violence. I have already, on two occasions, taken the opportunity to provide a different perspective when I heard others making comment about a recent victim of violence and circumstances they viewed as “contributing” factors. I took away the simple message that ‘I am someone’ when it comes to taking action. The importance of role modelling and being responsible for my future were also important reminders I took away from the presentation. I was not previously aware or sensitive to the needs of someone recovering from a violent crime beyond the physical or emotional needs we are more aware of.

  • I have to say I found the presentation from Ann O’Neill outstanding. Having read her bio I went into the session with very high expectations, I was worried that they were too high. Ann’s presentation was completely different to what I expected. To use the time to distil all of her learning’s into a short presentation was genius and speaks volumes about shifting ones mental stance from victim to victor.
